Several tick-borne Rickettsia species are recognized human pathogens in Argentina. Here we evaluated rickettsial infection in ticks collected on passerine birds during 2011-2012 in two eco-regions of Argentina. The ticks were processed by molecular analysis through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection and DNA sequencing of fragments of two rickettsial genes, gltA and ompA. A total of 594 tick specimens (532 larvae and 62 nymphs), representing at least 4 species (Amblyomma tigrinum, Ixodes pararicinus, Haemaphysalis juxtakochi, Haemaphysalis leporispalustris), were evaluated. At least one A. tigrinum larva, collected on Coryphospingus cucullatus in Chaco Seco, was infected with Rickettsia parkeri, whereas at least 12 larvae and 1 nymph of I. pararicinus, collected from Troglodytes aedon, Turdus amaurochalinus, Turdus rufiventris, C. cucullatus and Zonotrichia capensis, were infected with an undescribed Rickettsia agent, genetically related to several rickettsial endosymbionts of ticks of the Ixodes ricinus complex. R. parkeri is a recognized human pathogen in several American countries including Argentina, where a recent study incriminated A. tigrinum as the potential vector of R. parkeri to humans. Birds could play an important role in dispersing R. parkeri-infected A. tigrinum ticks. Additionally, we report for the first time a rickettsial agent infecting I. pararicinus ticks. This paper is aimed to provide a consistent theoretical framework for the decision making process of a consumer-investor in an environment of risk and uncertainty with constant volatility. In this research, the Wiener and Poisson processes play an essential role in modeling market risk and uncertainty in economic policy. In this context different models of partial equilibrium that characterize consumption and proportions of wealth that a rational consumer allocates to the distinct assets available in the financial markets (domestic and foreign) are systematically examined.Market risk, fiscal policy, stochastic modeling and consumer's inter-temporal decisions

    Data ingestion into NeQuick 2

    Get PDF
NeQuick 2 is the latest version of the NeQuick ionosphere electron density model developed at the Aeronomy and Radiopropagation Laboratory of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) ‐ Trieste, Italy with the collaboration of the Institute for Geophysics, Astrophysics and Meteorology of the University of Graz, Austria. It is a quick‐run model particularly designed for trans‐ionospheric propagation applications that has been conceived to reproduce the median behavior of the ionosphere. To provide 3‐D specification of the ionosphere electron density for current conditions, different ionosphere electron density retrieval techniques based on the NeQuick adaptation to GPS‐derived Total Electron Content (TEC) data and ionosonde measured peak parameters values have been developed. In the present paper the technique based on the ingestion of global vertical TEC map into NeQuick 2 will be validated and an assessment of the capability of the model to reproduce the ionosphere day‐to‐day variability will also be performed. For this purpose hourly GPS‐derived global vertical TEC maps and hourly foF2 values from about 20 ionosondes corresponding to one month in high solar activity and one month in low solar activity period will be used. Furthermore, the first results concerning the ingestion of space‐based GPS‐derived TEC data will be presented.Fil: Nava, B.. The Abdus Salam. La hermenéutica analógica en el análisis organizacional

    Get PDF
This article aims to present an alternative methodology for analyzing transcripts of semi-structured interviews, considering the qualitative paradigm and applying the philosophical proposal of analog hermeneutics proposed by Beuchot (2009). Based on a methodological strategy of case study, first, contextualization and justification for the research project on structural transformation at the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, is described. Later, the hermeneutic analysis model is detailed; this was applied to the texts of eight semi-structured interviews with the main actors who drove, led or objected to this organizational change, such as rectors, congressmen, teachers and university officials. Unlike a qualitative analysis based on the construction of categories and sub-categories identified in the interview text, this work explains the advantages of a hermeneutical approach based on an analogy, which permits maintaining a balance between univocity and equivocity. Univocity is understood as a mining of the truth, where one and only one meaning is valid and acceptable; equivocity is understood as a very open interpretive construction that depends on the context or historical situation of the interpreter. Implementation of this methodology has permitted the construction of a hermeneutic analogical referent, composed of a range of interpretations valid for this case study. As a result of this methodology, a conceptual map is presented that integrates this range of interpretations and discusses the advantages of having this analog referent, not as a final interpretation, but as a tool to advance in a continuous hermeneutic process. &nbsp

Extending Software Architecting Processes with Decision-making Activities 1

Abstract. The traditional perspective on software architecture has paid much attention to architecting as a development process aimed at creating the architecture of a software system, as well as the documentation used to communicate the architecture to the stakeholders by means of several architectural views. Recently, the software architecture research community has faced the need to record, manage, and document the design decisions and the rationale that lead to such architecture. Because architectures are the result of a set of design decisions, this design rationale must be properly recorded and managed as a complementary process to the modelling activity. In this paper we detail different types of decision-making activities aimed at creating and using design decisions and how these can be supported with tool support

This research pursues two avenues of thought: 1. Prophetology—that is, the theory dealing with the gnoseological status of the prophetic gift—and 2. That of a rationalistic philosophical culture, common to Christians and Jews and used for mystical and “anthropological” ends—that is, the quest for the perfection of the human being. In the former instance, the discussion deals exclusively with natural prophesy as it appears in the Arab tradition, which was spread throughout the Christian and Jewish cultures of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries through Maimonides’ Guide for the Perplexed. This type of prophecy, for the spread of which the Latin translation of Maimonides’ work was decisive, was adopted—with variations—by a number of authors who formed part of Dante’s culture, particularly Albertus Magnus, in the Christian sphere, and Judah Romano and Abulafia in the Jewish sphere. With regard to the latter—i.e., the common philosophical culture—this relates to the High Medieval sacralized formulation that instrumentalised—through the study and application of a given exegesis—an Averroist model of demonstration of the condition of the possibility of thought: the instrument of scientific demonstration becomes a propaedeutic for salvation; that is, an instrument of a mystical nature for the achievement of personal and civil perfection. The philosophy that supports this model— Averroes’ noetics—along with its exegetic instrumentalization, formed a fundamental part of the intellectual climate of the Italy (and, above all Florence) in which Dante’s works were written..
